Who are the partners in PYLI (Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative) project?

“Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative” (PYLI) is a three-year project led by British Council Pakistan will be implemented in Pakistan in partnership with Government of Pakistan’s Youth Development Programme, UNDP Pakistan, local CSOs and public universities. The project is co-funded by Education Above All Foundation’s programme “Reach Out to Asia” under their “Global Citizenship Education (GCED) for Climate Action” initiative. Project Objective: Young women and men in Pakistan are aware of social and ethical values, and respectful of diversity by taking inclusive and responsible actions to influence local, national, and global sustainable development agenda on climate action. The project will train 290,000 youth from universities and communities in the Global Citizenship Education framework, leadership and Climate Action curriculum. These youth will then go out to their communities to carry out Youth Led Climate Actions (YLAs), be involved in policy dialogue and advocacy, participate in national and international climate events and showcase their successful projects. Our Partners include: Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Higher Education Commission, WaterAid, Viamo, UNDP, Universities and district civil society organisations.

What is PMYP (Prime Minister Youth Programme) ?

The Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) was established in 2013. PMYP’s vision is to provide quality education, decent employment, meaningful engagement, and foster a deep respect for the environment among the youth through integrated, dynamic, and sustainable youth-centered initiatives. The PMYP has initiatives in education, employment, engagement and environment.

What is HEC (Higher Education Commission)?

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is an independent, autonomous, and constitutionally established institution of primary funding, overseeing, regulating, and accrediting the higher education efforts in Pakistan.

What is GYM (Green Youth Movement) ?

The Green Youth Movement (GYM) is a flagship initiative of the Prime Minister's Youth Programme. The program aims to enable youth in the country to spearhead sustainable development and green growth in the country. The initiative is also a means to transition toward SDGs no. 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15 & 17.

What are GYM clubs?

Green Youth Movement (GYM) clubs are developed in all the 130+ universities. Each GYM club will constitute of captain, vice captain, communication lead, thematic leads and members.

What are YLAs (Youth Led Actions)?

The GYM club members carry out youth led actions (YLAs) which are climate focused. YLA typically involves a group of 5-10 young people who plan a community project and implement using improved social responsibility and leadership skills on one of the climate actions described in the table below The YLAs have the following themes: forestation, solid waste management, alternate energies, awareness raising in schools and colleges and water conservation.

What are Elections?

Within the GYM club the posts of captain, vice captain, communication lead and thematic leads will be elected through elections. These posts have a tenure of two years.

What are Competitions?

Competitions are organized by the HEC for the GYM clubs that focus on YLA themes.

What does the curriculum cover?

The curriculum available on the learning management system has a toolkit which covers Global Citizenship Education Framework, leadership and Climate action. There are also handbooks for the five YLA climate themes.

How can students Register?

The students can visit our website, www.lms/student/register.com, provide some basic information and register on the PYLI learning management system.
